We are a church that is passionate about proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that humanity’s ultimate end is to glorify God through the appreciation and adoration of His Son, Jesus Christ; in this, we find both our satisfaction and our joy. To gain a better sense of who we are and what we believe, consider the following statements.
- We Are Protestant
We are a Protestant church, rooted in the historic affirmations of the Protestant Reformation. These are summed up in what have come to be known as the "Five Solas" (from the Latin word for "alone"): Faith Alone, Christ Alone, Grace Alone, Scripture Alone, and the Glory of God Alone.
- We Are Reformed
We are a reformed church in our understanding of salvation. We embrace the total depravity of humanity, the unconditional election of the believer, definite and particular atonement, the effectual calling of the sinner, and the preserving power of God to keep those who are His.
- We Are Baptistic
We believe in the autonomy of the local church, two basic ordinances (the Lord’s Supper and believer baptism), and the separation of church and state.
- We Are Biblical
We are a biblical church in that we esteem no tradition or theological system higher than Scripture itself. In all that we do, we strive to submit ourselves to inspired Scripture. What goes beyond the scope of the Bible is to be seen as human preference and therefore fallible. Wisdom, love, and humility should be our guides as we move into areas where Scripture is silent or unclear.
- We Are Evangelistic
We are evangelistic. It is a priority for the church collectively and for each believer individually, and we desire to share the Good News of God’s forgiveness in Christ as widely and effectively as possible. God equips and calls believers into a variety of vocations and ministries, and within that context, each person is to be a witness by word and deed to the Lord Jesus Christ. God offers His love to all without distinction and is concerned that believers achieve their full potential in Christ. The proclamation of the Gospel should be accompanied by genuine love and concern for all. Faith comes by hearing the word of God and should therefore be a priority for the church and every believer.
The above statements are taken from our Constitution and Bylaws.
Our confession of faith is The New Hampshire Confession of 1853.
